Setting Your Photography Business Up For Success

So… you want to be a full-time wedding photographer? It can seem like a very daunting task. There are over 200,000 wedding photographers in the US alone. But there is always an increasing demand for quality. With the right tools & help, you can get there in no time!! I started my business a little over two years ago. My first year started off as part-time with more than 30 weddings. As of my second year, I was full-time & booked out a year in advance!!! You can do the same by taking the right steps. There is no cookie cutter way of running your business. Each person’s brand, style, & personality is different. But there are certain things that can help you immensely throughout this journey. I want to talk about three of those things today. So, happy scrolling!!

Time is Money

Your time is oh-so-valuable. Be wise with it! This applies to quite a lot you'll find! Some clients are going to be worth your sweat, tears, and long nights. Others, not so much. Learn to differentiate between the two. Keep your goals in mind and stick to them. This also really relates to your style! Spend time perfecting your “look”. Your photography will speak for itself, so make sure it says what you want it to. Time is money right? Invest those precious “time-dollars” in things that will benefit your business & don’t waste them unnecessarily.

Preparedness = Professionalism

Make sure to know your stuff! Study study study. No one is going to hire a “professional” in any industry that doesn’t seem to know what they are doing. You want your clients to not have a doubt in their mind that you know what you are talking about. Clients ask lots of questions. Be prepared to answer them. Your clients will feel far more comfortable with you if they know what to expect while working with you. For example, let your clients know things like timelines of when they can expect their images & anything you may need from them! Always keep communication open & make sure they feel comfortable with you as a friend & professional. Always strive to make sure they know they’re in the best of hands!

Give Your Best Product

Give 101% to each one of your clients. They’re paying for it after all! If you want to be a full-time photographer, make sure your work depicts that. Shortly after your client receives their images, you can bet they will be on Instagram, Facebook, & even that group-chat they have with all their close friends. Your images will have to be speaking for themselves! So take the time to make sure they are your very best work. Granted, you won’t be able to create showstopping images with each wedding you shoot. But no matter what you have at the end of the day, make your very best out of it. We could go on and on for hours on tips and tricks. However, if you wanna know how to get started faster, purchase my Getting Started with Wedding Photography guide for helpful tips and tricks on everything from manual settings to marketing your business! This will expand on so much more than we did here today and we can guarantee it will help you to launch your wedding photography business. Have faith in yourself, always keep learning, and work hard. You’ll reach your goals in no time.
